Google+ and Facebook have significant changes coming

Lots of changes were announced last week for Social Media rivals Facebook and Google+.  Less than 24 hours before the New News Feed presentation by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg on Thursday, Google+ makes changes of their own to profiles and pages.

New Facebook Features:

  • Fresh new category-specific feeds – your own “personalized newspaper”
  • Larger Photos – goodbye clutter, hello bright, beautiful stories
  • Mobile-inspired, consistent User Interface – you get the same, clean look everywhere you go

The new News Feed offers larger images, multiple feed options and a consistent layout across multiple platforms. The new feed options allow you to customize by interests, making your News Feed like a “personalized newspaper,” says Zuckerburg. You may not be seeing these changes to your profile just yet, as Facebook has decided to roll-out the new, improved design. You can join the waiting list to get the new news feed by visiting https://www.facebook.com/about/newsfeed.

New Google+ Features:

  • Larger Cover Photos: 2120 x 1192 pixels! (16:9 aspect ratio)
  • Revamped Reviews – all of your Local Reviews have been moved to the “Reviews” section of your profile
  • About Tabs make editing your profile a bit easier

The first change you will notice when signing into your Google+ account is the notification prompting you to update your cover photo. This change allows for photos up to 2120 x 1192 pixels! The “About” tab now features a completely new design that organizes all of your information into separate Google Now-like cards (Basic Information, People, Story, Work, Places, Links, etc.). As before, you can still share specific fields with select circles and all of the new cards also feature prominent ‘edit’ links that make keeping your profile updated a little bit easier.
